Leading scientists explain their cutting edge research on Alzheimer's Disease and its significance for both prevention and treatment in a companion book to a major HBO series on Alzheimer's

This spring, a series of documentary specials produced by HBO, the National Institute on Aging, and the Alzheimer's Association will bring new understanding and hope to millions who fear they will lose their memories and their lives to Alzheimer's Disease. Until recently, the medical news on Alzheimer's was not comforting. In HBO's state-of-the-science report, the leading scientists in the field will reveal ways that research into causes and prevention has crossed a threshold. The companion book to the groundbreaking series, featuring an Introduction by Maria Shriver, will explain the science in easy-to-understand terms, focusing on the implications for improving our chances of remaining cognitively vital throughout a long life.

The executive producers of the Alzheimer's Project are Sheila Nevins and Maria Shriver. Nevins, the president of HBO Documentary Films, has received twenty Primetime Emmy Awards, twenty-five News and Documentary Emmys, and twenty-eight Peabody Awards during her tenure at HBO. Shriver is an award-winning journalist and author of several books including the children's book on Alzheimer's, What's Happening to Grandpa? She is also the daughter of Sargent Shriver, who suffers from the disease.

Producer John Hoffman, vice president of HBO Original Programming, has spent the past eleven years creating, producing, and supervising documentary programming for HBO, including the 2007 Emmy® Governors Award–winning Addiction project. Producer Susan Froemke has more than twenty-seven nonfiction films to her credit, including the 1976 classic Grey Gardens and HBO's 2001 Academy Award®–nominated Lalee's Kin.
