HBG Big News This Week: December 3-7, 2018

Following is a recap of major news at Hachette Book Group for the week of December 3-7, 2018:

Bestseller highlights: New to the New York Times bestseller list this week is Corey R. Lewandowski’s Trump’s Enemies (Center Street) at #11 on both the Print Hardcover Fiction, and Combined Print & Ebook Fiction lists, and David Baldacci’s Long Road to Mercy (GCP) on the Audio Monthly Fiction list. HBG has 20 books and three audiobooks on the New York Times list this week. Our distribution clients have two #1s—Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Meltdown (Amulet), holds onto the #1 slot on the Children’s Series list and Construction Site on Christmas Night by Sherri Duskey Rinker (Chronicle) remains at #1 on the Children’s Picture Books list. HBG also has 10 books on the USA Today list.

Rittenhouse Award: PubWest’s 2019 Rittenhouse Lifetime Achievement Award is being given to Luis Alberto Urrea, “a prolific and acclaimed writer who uses his dual-culture life experiences to explore greater themes of love, loss, and triumph.”  The award honors those authors who have made significant contributions to the Western community of the book.

GRAMMY news: David Sedaris is once again a GRAMMY Nominee in the Spoken Word category. This is the 25th nomination for a Hachette Audio production. The complete list of this year’s nominees can be found here.

Dublin Literary Award: Little, Brown has two books on the longlist for the International Dublin Literary Awards – Gather the Daughters by Jennie Melamed and Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař.

800-CEO-READ Shortlist: Ijeoma Oluo’s So You Want to Talk About Race (Seal Press) has made the shortlist for 800-CEO-READ’s 12th annual Business Book Awards. The winner will be announced on January 17.

B&N Rep of the Year: Barnes & Noble announced their Reps of the Year honors this week, and Danielle Cantarella, HBG National Account Manager, was named B&N Children’s Rep of the Year. Congratulations, Danielle!

Media blitz: with the passing of George H.W. Bush, Susan Page, chronicler of the Bush dynasty and author of The Matriarch: Barbara Bush and the Making of an American Dynasty (Twelve, April 2019) was in high demand in the media. In addition to writing the official obituary for USA Today, Susan made appearances on CBS This Morning, CBS Face the Nation, and CBS Evening News; MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports, Up with David Gura, Chris Matthews, Brian Williams, Kasie DC, Hardball, and Morning Joe; FOX News Special Report with Bret Baier, and interviews on Dana Perino and Brian Kilmeade’s programs; and PBS NewsHour.

Editors’ Picks: Amazon editors’ Top 10 books for December include N.K. Jemisin’s How Long Tll Black Future Month? (Orbit). See the full list including HBG titles on many category lists here.  Barnes & Noble chose four fiction titles to highlight this month, including Verses for the Dead by Douglas Preston (GCP).
