HBG Big News This Week: March 4-8, 2019

Following is a recap of major news at Hachette Book Group for the week of March 4-8, 2019:

Bestseller news:  debuting on the New York Times Audio Monthly’s bestseller list this week are Hachette Audio’s The Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North (Fiction) and The Good Nurse by Charles Graeber (Nonfiction). HBG has 16 books on the NYT list and our distribution clients have two books on the list this week.

Audie Awards: LBYR’s Dreamland Burning by Jennifer Latham, narrated by Pyeng Threadgill and Luke Slattery, was named Best Multi-Voiced Performance at the Audie Award ceremony on March 4, beating out a field ofimpressive finalists. Congratulations to the Hachette Audio team!

Women’s Prize for Fiction: Madeline Miller’s Circe (Little, Brown) has been longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction. The award celebrates the best full-length fiction written by women throughout the world. Through the initiatives and promotions set up by the Women’s Prize for Fiction, even appearing on the shortlist significantly boosts a novel’s sales and ensures an author’s work will be promoted in bookstores and libraries around the world. Shortlist to be announced on April 29, and winner on June 5.

Lambda Literary Award: Darnell Moore’s No Ashes in the Fire: Coming of Age Black and Free in America (Bold Type Books) has been named a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award in the Gay Memoir/Biography category.The winners will be announced on June 3.

Walter Scott Prize: a longlist has been unveiled for this year’s £25,000 (about $32,890) Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction, and it includes Tombland by C.J. Sansom (Mulholland Books). The Walter Scott Prize “celebrates quality, innovation and longevity of writing in the English language, and is open to books first published in the previous year in the U.K., Ireland or the Commonwealth.” A shortlist will be announced in April, and the winner named June 15.

One Book, One New York: Min Jin Lee’s Free Food for Millionaires (GCP) has been selected as a finalist for One Book, One New York 2019. Coinciding with Women’s History Month, the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment and BuzzFeed News selected five acclaimed titles all written by women – see the full list here. Beginning on April 1st and continuing all throughout the month of April, New Yorkers will cast their votes atnyc.gov/onebook to determine the one book the whole city will read together – let’s all vote for Min! (and don’t worry, we’ll remind you on April 1).

Patterson TV deal: Imagine Entertainment has set a broad deal with James Patterson to develop film, TV and digital projects based on his children’s books, Variety reported. The deal calls for Imagine’s newly launched Imagine Kids and Family division to develop five titles from the Jimmy Patterson catalog. Projects in the development pipeline include the House of Robots, Treasure Hunters, and I Funny series.
