HBG Big News This Week: October 8-12, 2018

Following is a recap of major news at Hachette Book Group for the week of October 8-12, 2018:

Bestseller news: new to the New York Times bestseller list this week and charting high are Liza Mundy’s Code Girls (Hachette Books) at #3 on the Print Paperback list, and Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor (LBYR) at #2 on the Young Adult hardcover list. Our client publishers have a #1 bestseller on the Picture Book list, I Am Human by Susan Verde (Abrams). And HBG also has 15 books on the USA Today list, click here to view the full list.
Major acquisition: Little, Brown announced the upcoming publication of The Reunion, by Guillaume Musso, who has long been France’s #1 bestselling author. The French edition of The Reunion has sold over half a million copies since its publication earlier this year. It was the first novel by Musso to be published by HBG sister company Calmann-Lévy. Weidenfeld & Nicolson will publish alongside Little, Brown for a Hachette global publishing event, on July 7, 2019.
Global Fortnite partnership:  Hachette Books and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers announced an official partnership with Epic Games to publish books based on Fortnite, the #1 gaming brand in the world. With 125 million players worldwide, Fortnite is the biggest gaming franchise in a decade. This exciting deal is part of a worldwide multi-year Hachette publishing program with partners in the UK, France, and Spain. Hachette Books and LBYR will be home to the official Fortnite publishing program in North America and will launch the program this fall with stationery products – 2019 calendar, two notebooks, and a journal – with a full rollout of other books including guides, handbooks, yearbooks, atlases, and more to come in 2019.

Library Reads: Orbit has two books selected as November Library Reads picks – N.K. Jemisin’s first story collection, How Long ‘Til Black Future Month, and Tasha Suri’s Empire of Sand.  Library Reads picks are the top ten books published in the month that librarians across the country love.
