HBG Big News This Week: September 10-14, 2018

Major release: One of the most highly anticipated books of the season, Sally Field’s In Pieces (GCP), launches next week with an amazing media lineup. Coverage for the book includes an excellent profile in the New York Times, interviews and reviews in Entertainment WeeklyElle, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, USA Today, New York Times Book Review, The Washington Post, and a Parade magazine cover story. Sally will be interviewed by Diane Sawyer next week on ABC’s Good Morning America and Nightline, and will appear on ABC’s The View, PBS/CNN International’s Amanpour & Co., NPR’s All Things Considered, among other programs. And she’ll do a national tour with 20+ events, certain to draw huge crowds of fans at every venue.

Hot topic: Tom Wright and Bradley Hope’s Billion Dollar Whale: The Man Who Fooled Wall Street, Hollywood, and the World (Hachette Books) goes on sale next week and is already lighting up the media. Three separate stories ran in the New York Post’s Page Six in the past week, the Wall Street Journal will run the first exclusive excerpt tomorrow (which will be the cover story for the Exchange section in print), and second serial in the Hollywood Reporter. AXIOS covered the book this week, describing the high-finance exposé as a “gripping” story about Jho Low and “the heist of the century.” The authors will be interviewed on CNBC Squawk Box, Buzzfeed AM2DM, L.A. NPR affiliate KCRW, a VICE Q&A, and a Slate Money podcast, with more to come.

Anthony Award: Last weekend at Bouchercon, the popular annual crime fiction conference, Attica Locke’s Bluebird, Bluebird (Mulholland) won the 2018 Anthony Award for Best Novel. The Anthony Awards are among the most prestigious in the world of mystery writers.
